Elliana Hull
Breakthrough T1D Mid-Atlantic Youth Ambassador
NOVA Competitive Swimmer
Elliana's journey with Type 1 Diabetes began six years ago when she was just nine years old. It was a diagnosis that altered the course of her life, presenting her with daily challenges and new responsibilities. Despite these hurdles, Elliana remains a determined and spirited individual, refusing to let her condition define her.
As a competitive swimmer, Elliana dedicates herself to her sport, practicing five days a week for two hours each session. Her commitment and hard work have taken her up and down the East Coast to various swim meets, where she has amassed an impressive collection of 24 medals and over 50 ribbons. Her achievements in the pool are a testament to her talent and dedication, but behind the scenes, she faces the constant challenge of managing her diabetes.
Fortunately, Elliana has access to technology that helps her maintain her blood sugar levels—a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) and an insulin pump. She understands the privilege of having these tools, knowing that not all children with diabetes have the same access. Despite this, she remains grateful for the support she receives from her family, friends, and medical team.
Ultimately, the decision depends on your priorities and goals, but for Elliana, being a Breakthrough T1D Youth Ambassador and part of AWearMe, this story is about more than just managing her own diabetes, it’s about raising awareness and inspiring others. Through her journey, her dedication to competitive swimming, and the challenges she faces with Type 1 Diabetes, she hopes to show that kids with T1D can live full, active lives. Partnering with AWearMe, she also aims to use her story to encourage support for research, programs, and advocacy that help the T1D community, showing how one young ambassador can make a difference and motivate others to join the cause.
